I've been studying katipo, their invertebrate neighbours, watching them evolve along with their environment since the beginning of 2011. Initial work (and learning curve) was in the dunes at Ocean Beach, part of the terrific Cape Kidnappers and Ocean Beach Sanctuary, but in 2016 the family shifted to Foxton Beach, so I continue from here, again with the help of my friends...

The focus has widened on this west coast of the lower North Island, to include dune wetlands and estuaries, with some focus on the Manawatu Estuary Ramsar site. katipo ecology continues to be a focus.

Camera for most of the dunes work is Olympus TG5 from Sep 2019, just starting with OM TG7 Sep. 24. The GPS locations from these cameras are mostly used. Perhaps 10-20% of locations are more than 10m off reality, but in many cases, I've gone back to adjust them more precisely. If you need a precise location, rattle my cage about the observation that matters. Maybe we can improve it.
