Winter 2024 Project Update

Dear project members,

We now have 65 members in the Land for Wildlife Brisbane project, and 41 observers and who in total have recorded 8011 observations of 2339 species across Brisbane!
It's incredible to see the diversity of wild species that citizen scientists like yourselves are finding across the varied habitats on your properties in Brisbane.

According to iNaturalist there have been 11600 species observed across the greater Brisbane region (please note the map in the collection project that summaries the Brisbane area has included some parts of adjoining local government areas including D’Aigular National Park, Moreton Island, Bribie Island and Greenbank, so this figure is not just from Brisbane but other Council areas too).

We know that South-east Queensland is a biodiversity hotspot being the subtropics and the area of crossover between species at the southern limit and northern limit of their range.

If you are seeking ID help for a particular iNaturalist observation, please select the classification of the lifeform you have found eg. flowering plants, Fungi, Mammals, Reptiles, Rodents etc, contact your WCPP officer on their email or email: wcpp@brisbane.qld.gov.au so we know to have a closer look at your photos in iNaturalist. With so many new records each week, we may not see your individual observation unless you give us a buzz.

If you have neighbours and friends in Land for Wildlife program in Brisbane, who like to take photos of biodiversity, please encourage them to to join our iNaturalist project also, and remember to click on add to project box each time your upload.

Be safe and happy iNatting,

The Wildlife Conservation Partnerships Program team
