It's truly exciting to encounter the Chinese box turtle. While I was aware that this turtle isn't particularly rare in eastern Taiwan, it's still considered a protected species in the country. Seeing it was a first for me. One day, as I was riding my scooter along a mountain road, I suddenly heard a noise. I quickly parked my scooter and spotted a beautiful turtle shell by the roadside. I grabbed my camera and placed it beside the turtle, then squatted down to wait. I observed as the turtle cautiously poked its head out, glanced around, and retracted it. During this time, I noticed something emerging from the rear of its shell. The next time it extended its head, it glanced around briefly and then wandered off, leaving behind a puddle of waste and a delighted observer.
