Education Coordinator for the Chico State Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve. Also worked as a naturalist in Bidwell Park for over 10 years. Wrote an online guide to the more conspicuous flowers of Bidwell Park (now out of print). So I know those areas best, although there is always more to learn. Also have botanized Table Mountain extensively. I try to be civil, but I have some pet peeves about the common auto-id mistakes, and am trying to correct the algorithm, so don't take it personally! Unless you just take pictures of the flowers of plants and not the leaves, then please take it personally ;) I mean, how would you like to be identified solely with your reproductive parts?
I do a number of NABA butterfly counts every year, though I admit the frits are always a mystery to me.
Also spend quite a bit of time in Amami Oshima, a recently designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, mostly summers, when it's too hot to do anything outside but swim. So I take a lot of pictures of aquatic organisms, especially in Amami's extensive shallow coral reefs. Thanks to the help of iNaturalist folks, I can now put a name to these critters and learn more about them, which has always been very difficult with the language barrier.
