Taxonomy:
This species is also described as Buplex albicinctus by Austen and as Pangonia leucomelas by Wiedemann (synonymy according to Systema Dipterorum).
An all black species with a white face, tufts of grey or buff hairs on the side of the thorax and a broad irregular white band on the second abdominal segment. Wings dark infuscated.

Recorded from the Western Cape. No precise date or locality on the holotype of leucomelas. Type locality of albincinctus: Hottentots Holland Mts, 64 km from Cape Town. Other localities: Great Winterhoek Mts, Tulbagh; Stellenbosch; Franschhoek Pass; Villiersdorp: Robinson's Pass, near Mossel Bay.
