4.5-6 mm long, but rarely shorter than 5 mm; quite stocky.
Coloration variable; underside, head, antennae and legs more or less black or reddish; Upper side reddish yellow or brownish red with black markings (fig. 16a shows the standard pattern): on the pronotum two elongated spots, on each elytron six roundish, small spots. The species varies greatly from almost unicolor reddish-yellow to completely black.
