Bembix olivata Dahlbom, 1845

B. olivata is easily identified by very well developed yellow U-shaped mark (linea quadrata) on the black mesonotum and the black pattern on the abdominal tergites: T1 with black part irregularly triangular immaculate; T2 with 2 black transverse spots, the remaining segments not black-dotted.

Distribution: In southern Africa recorded from the northwestern Namibian coast at Swakopmund south eastwards through Namibia to the southern Kalahari and also from KwaZulu-Natal.

Floral associations: Molluginaceae (Limeum argute-carinatum); Amaranthaceae (Hermbstaedtia odorata); Apiaceae (Deverra denudata); Asteraceae (Geigeria pectidea and Senecio sp.); Scrophulariaceae (Selago dinteri); Zygophyllaceae (Tribulus sp. and Zygophyllum simplex).
