I was very surprised to find this many cacti in Colorado. As I continued to explore my way through the brush I also found an invasive species of ant.

Coming up pikes peak, I saw much interesting wildlife and plants. Most interesting was the lichen. I found some Cobblestone lichen on this Pikes Granite, a combination of quartz, mica, and Pheltzmar. Exploring it at such a hight you have to be careful, I learned that the hard way. The air is thinner that’s such a height, I wasn’t careful, and got a mild headache, along with some disorientation and dizziness. Next time I’ll have to be more careful!

N Vail Trail is an approximately 2 mile hike which I did today. Along the way I noticed a few sick plants, along with some tent caterpillars, a black spider, and an interesting small beetle about the length of 1/2 a centimeter. I observed that this ecosystem was suffering from some sort of imbalance. I was, sadly, unable find it. It may have likely been the fire ant nest I found.

want to bring some bug spray, water, and lunch.
