Pterodontia smithi Johnson, 1899

Head black, with yellow and brownish pile. Mouthparts short. Antennae yellow, inserted on lower half of head.
Thorax yellow thickly covered with long yellowish pile, a dorsal stripe about the width of the head extends to nearly opposite the base of the wings where it expands into a large spot.
Scutellum yellow with brown and yellowish pile and a round central black spot.
Wings hyaline, veins yellow. Wing with 5 closed cells; cell dm and proximal cell r 4+5 fused, forming a large single cell.
Abdomen tricolor, with brown and yellowish pile; with an irregular black central stripe and dark and light yellow transverse bands and with lateral quadrate black markings.
Legs with tibial spines; yellow with yellow pile, coxe and the under side of the fermora more or less tinged with brown, tips of the claws black.
Length 10 mm.
